Hidden Glen Safaris is owned and operated by Alan Sneddon who was born and brought up just outside Falkirk before studying Biological Science in Dundee. With Alan’s keen interest in Scottish history and over 35 years experience in both farm and wildlife management you are assured of having a wealth of knowledge in the driving seat and will be in the safe hands of someone who has lived and worked in the area for the past 14 years.
Our vehicle is a comfortable and capable 4WD which will take us along the sometimes challenging single track roads and out onto the farm and forest tracks that we are are privelaged to have access through.
We have high quality binoculars and a tripod mounted telescope through which you may get up close and personal with our iconic red deer and the soaring golden eagles as we drive through some stunning landscape.
Take a journey with us through a timeless landscape of lochs and mountains in a glen referred to as a “Thin Place”…a place where the veil between this world and the eternal world is thin. As we travel through we will pass old settlements and ruins which were once populated with people of the clans who lived here and worked the land.
Get close up with the rich wildlife that thrives in this landscape when we stop to scan the ridges for herds of red deer or search the skies for golden eagle.
Journey off road up forestry tracks and old drove roads to which we are privileged to have access.
Perthshire is one of Scotland’s most scenic and diverse counties, from the rich farmland and winding rivers of Strathearn to the snow capped mountains of Highland Perthshire and the majestic beauty of Glen Lyon, often referred to as Scotland’s loveliest glen.On a full day safari we can take more time to enjoy the wildlife of these places and tap into the rich cultural heritage of a landscape steeped in standing stones and folklore and the ruins of long abandoned settlements.
We have access onto estate tracks and remote roads and have the experience and hard gained knowledge to know where best to stop to spy for wildlife along the way. A full day with us will give you long lasting memories and a taste to explore another area next time.
Price can depend on the area you wish to explore and the lunch option you would prefer. We can tailor bespoke safaris just for you and can pick up and drop off at local accommodation in the Balquhidder /Crieff area if you fancy a wee dram during the day. If there is anything special you would like us to arrange then just ask us !

A great day and a lovely host
We had a fantastic private tour with Alan - in the morning we went into the glen to look for wildlife - we were lucky to get plenty of time watching the golden eagles, and also saw grouse and red deer. Alan's knowledge of the local area is wonderful and very extensive and we learned a lot about the history of the Trossachs as well as watching the wildlife. His truck is well-equipped with high quality binoculars and a telescope so you don't have to worry about bringing anything. In the afternoon we drove to Glenturret whisky distillery and had time to visit the Loch for a quick lunch (and more eagles), before he waited for us while we did a whisky tasting - very useful when you want to be able to actually drink the drams! It was a lovely day with a great host who tailored everything to our wishes, and even enquired what sort of whisky we both liked so he could come prepared. Thanks so much Alan!

A day exploring a hidden glen
“My wife and I met with Alan for our Hidden Glen Safari. As well as spending a day enjoying the Scottish countryside we wanted to see some wildlife. We set off past Balquhidder and Monachyle along a single track road with Alan giving a running commentary of the history of the area and how man had shaped the landscape as we see it today. Going off road on estate tracks we eventually stopped and walked to where Alan hoped we would see deer, and there on top of the ridge on the opposite side of the Glen a herd appeared. A great day, would highly recommend it - we came away with fantastic memories.”

Fascinating morning
So interesting and enjoyable. We had a wonderful morning out with Alan in this little glen. We learned so much about the communities who lived here, how farming has evolved since and the wildlife coexisting alongside. We saw many stags and hinds on the hillside (see we did learn something…) and even saw a golden eagle out hunting. Alan is a lovely guy - so knowledgable, easy going and great company.
